Abstract:
The Natural Resources building at Cal Poly Humboldt serves as a hub for students involved in the Environmental Protection and Environmental Science programs. The landscaping in front of the building serves as the face of the program and should reflect the ideals of the faculty and students accordingly. The aim of the Natural Resources Ivy Restoration Project calls for the removal of all Canary Ivy followed by the transplantation of approximately 12 native plant species. The restoration project will mimic local Redwood forest ecosystems and serve as an inspirational tool for future projects.
Problem Statement:
Canary Ivy is a rapid growing invasive species, capable of quickly dominating a multitude of environments. As it stands, the landscape in front of the NR building is overrun by ivy, displaying little biodiversity. Without swift action, the ivy will continue to monopolize the area, reducing native species diversity to even lower levels.
