Humboldt keeps up to 100 tons a year of food waste and food soiled paper out of the landfill through food recovery and composting programs. Most of the food scraps, peelings, and unwanted leftovers generated on campus get composted at a worm farm. Food waste collected from departmental break rooms, student-run coffee tables and small events is composted on campus in the Earth Tub, a small in-vessel composter operated by the Waste Reduction Resource Awareness Program (WRRAP).
