Abstract:
The goal of the project is to create a comprehensive plan for sustainable lighting on campus.  There are several issues at hand, and they are as follows: the current streetlamps are not the most efficient and effective outdoor lighting system available to the campus; solar energy is not being utilized for the majority of the outdoor electrical lighting. In order to address these matters, the following objectives have been developed: to design a new outdoor lighting schematic (including lights on buildings, as they are not included on the university's existing plans) utilizing photovoltaic arrays; to build a prototype of the outdoor lighting apparatus; and to create a comprehensive plan for sustainable outdoor lighting on campus that lowers maintenance labor hours and monetary costs, while simultaneously providing the community with lighting that promotes safety and provides comfort.
